My Return to Blogging

I know you all missed my clever blogs.  I had to take a break because I stopped drinking wine for awhile...that's not true at all.  I stopped because this grant thing took over my life and I forgot that I had started blogging to begin with.  Not to mention I'm supposed to be writing this Master's paper.  I did successfully submit my first three chapters today for review.  I'm sure that I will no longer consider myself a good writer once I get those wonderful red marks back.

Let me catch you up on some things...
The school year ended (Thank gawd).
I passed the middle school praxis so I can teach middle school comm arts now.  Fun stuff.
Finished decorating my bedroom, thanks to this wonderful etsy.com store:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/LayneandCompany?ref=si_shop

J.H. did a bunch of personalized things for my room and they turned out awesome - ask her to make a window for you, it's the most amazing thing.
Got married in Vegas.
Bought new fish. Frado is super thrilled about the new fish.  She has managed to find her way on top of the tank now.  All bad.
That's about it.

Tonight, made some amazeballs dinner and watched the All-Star game with the boyfriend, husband and good friend K.N.. I had a gin and tonic (yes, because I have the drinking tastes of a 70 year old man).  Last night, we watched the homerun derby and had sushi (it was Monday, so of course we had sushi).  We also drank excessive amounts of wine, beer, and gin.  That was a fun walk home.  I ALSO GOT THIS AMAZING BAG.  I almost changed purses at Blueberry Hill, but didn't since my bro works there and I worried I would embarrass him.  No, I didn't care about that, I was just too involved with my Gin.

Yeah, so I skipped over that marriage thing.  It was so amazing.  I know I said I wouldn't do it, but I just love the Silver Fox so much...I couldn't not be with him.  Mushyness aside - it was VEGAS!   Great time, great people, and great way to make things official.  We were so spoiled by having our families out there.  I also met G's two oldest friends from grade school - good people.  I'm thrilled to be part of the Herman fam now...GREAT people.  It streamed online.  It was pretty cool to see all the FB posts about the families and friends being able to watch it online (and apparently the soccer game at the same time).

I'm anxiously awaiting the wedding pics.  Like so anxious, I'm practically stalking the mail man and possibly on the verge of a restraining order.

I'm going to go eat another piece of grilled zucchini pizza.

The Hump Day from Hell...With a Happy Ending

Today...sucked.  That's all there is to it...until about 8 when a wonderful person made my day.
First - work meeting.  Boring.  Irrelevant.  BOOOO
Second - Lots o' laundry to drop off.  Not a good smell.
Third - Dropped some cash at the grocery store...Target was too far away so I had to actually pay for my wine  and about $140 worth of other stuff, including popsicles (win).
Fourth - Mom's Birthday, Anniversary, and Father's Day falls within a mere three days of each other.
That equals a lot of Amazon purchases and trying to figure out what to get people who have everything (including an outdoor kitchen, golf cart, two outdoor gardens, a few stocked ponds, and so on).

But then...

My amazing friend who works in India came over to stay for the night.  So exciting!  Unfortunately, the wine was not enough, even the bottles that included 33% more.  Yup, donezo.

She's amazing - funny, brilliant, and just a great person.  Thank gawd she came to save the day!

ADORE...
The end.

The Paper That Refused to Write Itself

I've been writing on this Master's paper a lot lately.  When I say writing on, I mean opening, realizing it's a huge undertaking, and immediately minimizing it.  Since I opened it weeks ago, I have yet to hit the red "x", but I've also yet to write anything but a current date.

I'm waiting.

I'm pretty sure that if I wait long enough, it will write, edit, and publish itself.  Or, that plagiarizer scanner will come back in July with 80% plagiarized.  That just took me seven tries to spell the word plagiarized - Thanks Google Chrome for suggesting pasteurized.
The paper isn't due until the middle of July, but I have a huge summer planned...I'm going to be out of town for ten straight days in June.  YIKES!  Additionally, I don't have the data to actually finish writing the paper, so I need to "collect" that before the last day of school.  Yeah, sure.

"Here guys, take this survey."
"Ummm, (hand raised) what does this mean?"
"Just pick which one sounds the best."

There, data collected - winning.

Things I want as graduation gifts (assuming I actually finish):
1.  10 shares of Facebook - just so I can say that I have more than just every free minute invested in it.
2.  A bike.  I like to pretend that I will ride it this summer and fall - obviously without a helmet because I'm too cool for the safety gear.
3.  A raise.
4.  New shoes - lots and lots of new shoes.

Now, back to laying on the couch, watching NBA basketball, and sending all of the energy I have to the Thunder to shut the overrated Lakers out.  BAM!

The BF Needs to Boast

"I got 45th!"
"I know, out of 5,000 something."
"There weren't that many people in front of me."
"Yes, I know, 44..."

This is how the conversation just went with the BF while discussing the 5K we ran on Saturday.  He does have a right to brag, he ran it in 23 minutes.  The best part is he ran under the registered number of an 8 year old girl - which makes her look like an Olympian.  Needless to say, he got first in the 8 year old division.

The girls did a great job running - I got shin splints.  I'm pretty sure those were supposed to stop after I passed 18 years old, but apparently not.  Don't those signify growth?  Am I going to be taller than 5' 7 1/2" ?? Hold. the. phone.

I googled shin splints and they do not signify growth.  They signify the fact that I've been running.  Thank you, WebMD.

On Saturday night, the BF thought it would be a great idea for me to finally get my tattoo filled in.  I've been talking about doing it for months, but hadn't because I've been busy (aka didn'twannabecauseiknewhowmuchitwouldhurt).  So, we went to Iron Age in the Loop.  I've had other tattoos done by them, always good/clean/intimidating.   I love the fill, it turned out great.  But, I must say, I was right.  It hurt like a *$&#@.  I did a lot of cursing and a lot of whining. Unfortunately, the cursing didn't come out of my mouth in those cool symbols.  Although, the guy that tatted me had a devilish creature tatted on him, so I doubt he was offended.  The guy in the next office, we'll call it, did ask at one point, "What are you doing to her over there?".  I assume that was the whining.
The BF was convinced something was wrong because it bled a lot.  I reminded him that alcohol thins your blood and makes you bleed...
Check it.

It looks much better now, without the red blood splotches and such.

The countdown continues...14 days of school=112 Classroom Hours=WAY TOO LONG

Frado & de la Hoya

We bought new fish...thank gawd for that.  It was super awesome having a 55 gallon tank with ZERO fish in it.  There were fish (4 fish) in it prior to the move, but the move proved fatal to all fish involved.
Anyway.  We got three tiger oscars and three clown loaches.  I have named two tiger oscars: the one that is basically cut in half based on design, Hermione, and the one I picked out who has great color, de la Hoya.  With that being said...

Many people know that my cat, Frado, has more than one personality, borderline schizophrenic (as she runs full speed at the sofa and ninja kicks off the back).  She gets really lonely during the day and entertains herself by clearing surfaces.  This includes the dresser, fridge, table, countertop, etc.  I knew that getting these aggressive fish would be entertaining as hell.  The first night, she spent at least two hours trying to get to the fish through the tank.

She spent at least another hour starring at the tank...just staring.  Then she decided to sit eye-level with the tank on the second shelf of the bookcase.  In my Target induced wine state, this was hilarious.
I spent the majority of the evening taking video and pictures (which I will share) of Frado trying to access the fish.  So funny.

Separate thought:  Today was a rough day at the jobsite.  I seriously have no idea how I'm going to get through the next 15 days.  I just keep thinking about the amazing summer planned and the amount of time I will be saving every day by not cleaning up after Frado's schizo episodes.

Separate thought 2: My Bulls futures NBA Champions bet is now trash.  I'd like to thank the Bulls, Duke, and Mizzou for totally effing with my game plan.

Tomorrow I will discuss my feelings about participating in the 5K on Saturday. I love my girls, but the feelings of running multiple miles are not positive.

Introduction Rant

Entering the blogging game much too late I've decided.  I have a lot to say, most of it is of no importance to anyone. I like that my students pretend to care about what I say.  My poor BF has to try and keep up with what I say - apparently I can change topics within the same sentence.  That's a direct reflection of how my mind works.  That's probably not a good thing, but I like to remind people that Einstein was nuts, too.  Actually, I don't know if he was.  I said that because of his hair, but I'll go with it.

So...this is where it can get awkward.  What do I want to let out?  How much information do I want to give?  I can tell you that I've never been more ready to be finished with this school year.  I'm exhausted and so stressed out.  This is evident because half my grocery list consists of different kinds of wine I want to buy for the WEEK.  Yes, the week.  I had a revelation at Target when we checked out and purchased an absurd amount of alcohol...
Target gives you 5% back every time you use your Target card.  Hmmm...

In the last month, we've probably spent a few hundred dollars on alcohol.  Let's just say an even $300 for the sake of this rant (and because I don't want you to really know how much wine I've been drinking).  5% of $300.00 is $15.00.  The wine I've been drinking cost $6 a bottle.  That means that Target is practically giving me wine every few trips. In the last month, they have GIVEN me two bottles.  YES.  I knew I loved Target before that realization, but I REALLY love Target now.

Ok, it's more than likely time to drink one of those free bottles.  My next blog is going to be a diddy about Frado and the new fish.  I have an Oscar named, de la Hoya.  Brilliant, I know.
